We have decided at the government level to make available free medicine to indoor patients undergoing treatment in hospital ; if the patient party has to purchase medicine the cost will be reimbursed upon production of pucca cash receipts from medicine shops’ said Tripura Health Minister Sudip Roy Barman.
The health minister Sudip Roy Barman visit to the IGM hospital ,second biggest referral hospital in the state and inquired about the state of service, condition of patients and availability of different level of services in the hospital. The health minister inquired about the stock of medicine in the generic medicine counter in the hospital and told the accompanying officials and doctors to ensure full stockade of medicine in the generic counter. Accompanied by doctors and officials he also visited different wards of the hospital to inquire about the nature of treatment being provided to the patients . He also expressed annoyance over reported misbehavior of private security staff with the patient party and instructed the hospital authority to ensure that such things did not recur. ‘Many patients come to the hospital from far flung places and they are often ignorant of the finer nuances of the system ; that does not mean they will have to be ill-treated or subjected to assaults’ said Roy Barman. He expressed his determination to upgrade the health services in the state to the highest level. Roy Barman’s visit was welcomed by the medical and non-medical staff of the hospital who said that the minister seemed well aware of the problems and promised to resolve all of them. ‘He also spoke to us maintaining the highest level of decency and decorum ; that is what we liked most’ said a senior doctor of the hospital.
